Personal Profile

Professor A. K. Mukhopadhyay is a student of consciousness, to which he reports for all doubt clearance. Born in 1953, he is a medical graduate (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta (1977), a postgraduate (MD) in Pathology (1981) from India’s premier medical institute, AIIMS at Delhi, where he served for almost 40 years tendering medical laboratory service to patients, evidence-based academic service to MBBS, MD and PhD students and serving science by means of research and publications.

In India he is honored as “The father of the Laboratory Medicine discipline”. Internationally he is known as ”Dr. Mukho”, and this name is inextricably connected with consciousness. Browsing through this website, you will discover in one person, an empirical scientist, an innovator of ideas, a concept-builder, a hypothesis-generator, a silent Worldview reformer, and a catalyst for researchers. Like a biological cell, his approach is ideology-neutral, solution-centric, holistic and systematic.

From the TOP, his starting point in 1985 had been the coining of the term and concept of supracortical consciousness and from the BOTTOM establishing the discipline of Laboratory Medicine, independent of the Departments of Pathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology at AIIMS in 1988 introducing new medical postgraduate courses subsequently. For simultaneous pursuance of top-down and bottom-up approach in activities, his journey, as evident from his publications, freely downloadable from this website, has been rewarded with understanding of the envelop of present science, development of a primitive science of information beyond signal networking, identification of the patterns emerging in the complexity and of a relationship between dark energy and visible energy in living systems, recognition of the ladder as well as the canvas of cognition, conceptualization of systems psyche, its structure, operation and molecular links, envisaging the future of Artificial Intelligence, its relation to human intelligence and intelligence in nature, and eventually identifying the labyrinthine pathway of interconnection between the operation of consciousness, operations of self and “life”, operations of mind and information within the ambits of systems science.

Paradigm-changing Research:

Professor Mukhopadhyay’s scientific curiosity extends on developing a science for consciousness within the ambits of Systems Psychology, Systems Physics, System Informatics, and Systems Biology through formulation of research questions, concept building and generation of research hypothesis, which has been brnging a radical change of the Worldview and the Paradigm shift in many disciplines of Science. He coined the term and concept of Supracortical Consciousness in 1985 and authored books like The Dynamic web of Supracortical Consciousness (1987), Conquering the Brain (1995) and The Millennium Bridge (2000). He wrote extensively in Philosophical Volumes of Indian Council of Philosophical Research on the Science of Consciousness, on possible Relationship between Genes, Memes, Self, Consciousness and Information. His lead Papers are on Systems Psyche, The Ladder of Cognition, The Canvas of Cognition, The Layers between Neuroscience and Consciousness, Information Geometry, Relationship between Artificial Intelligence, Human Intelligence and Intelligence in Nature.
